BUiD organises a workshop about the new UAE arbitration law

Saturday, March 9, 2019

On 9 March 2019, BUiD organised a workshop about the new UAE arbitration law. In May 2018, the United Arab Emirates issued a Federal Law on Arbitration (Law No.6/2018). This law provides the legal framework for resolving disputes through arbitration in the UAE (outside the Free Zones), or outside the UAE if disputing parties agree to apply the Law. Aside from bringing the law on Arbitration to an international standard, the new law also seeks to enhance the position of the UAE as a jurisdiction to host arbitrations in the increasingly competitive drive by many countries to attract arbitration-related businesses.

Speakers from the industry discussed the new law and its effect on arbitration cases in the UAE. The Workshop aimed to identify and assess the pros and cons of the new law from academic and practical points of view including its potential effects on institutional and ad hoc arbitrations in the UAE.
