BUiD’s staff celebrated on 1st of February 2017, the 10th work anniversary for Prof. Abdullah Alshamsi, BUiD’s Vice Chancellor. Prof. Abdullah joined BUiD in February 2007.
Under Professor Abdullah’s leadership, BUiD has expanded its offering of postgraduate programmes, attracted academic experts, experienced increased enrollments and established a unique reputation as a research - based postgraduate university.
BUiD’s Staff threw a surprise party for the Vice Chancellor to show their respect and appreciation for him. The special event was attended by H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment who is a graduate of the University, H.E. Mirza Al Sayegh, Director, Office of H.H. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum and the University’s Council member, Dr Ayoub Kazem, Managing Director- Government and Corporate Services (AXS) at TECOM Group, Dr. Wafi Dawood, Board member and the Chief of Strategy & Excellence in the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) , and Ms. Jo Maher , Chief of Partnership, Research and Development at the KHDA. Staff spoke of their admiration for Professor Abdullah and commended his exceptional leadership style, his open door policy, and the way he has empowered his staff to build a stronger foundation for BUID.
Prof. Abdullah Alshamsi graduated from Eckerd College, St Petersburg, USA with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) in 1980, followed by a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honors in 1982 and a Masters in Civil Engineering in 1983 both from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. He completed his PhD at Leeds University (UK) in the area of Concrete Properties in Hot Climates in 1988.
In 1989, Professor Abdullah joined UAE University College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor where he was promoted to the ranks of Associate Professor and finally full Professor of Civil Engineering in 2002. Prof. Abdullah is an Associate Member of ACI 305 Hot Weather Concreting Committee and the head of the UAE Building Materials Specification, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CiArb).
