Prof. Bassam Abu- Hijleh Speaks about the Use of Renewable Energy to Power a Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant

Prof. Bassam Abu- Hijleh participated in the 10th International Conference on “Advances in Engineering and Technology” (AET-18) which took place in Kuala Lumpur –Malaysia on 8-9 January 2018. Prof. Bassam presented a research paper about assessing the technical and economic potential of using renewable energy to power a Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plant. His study looked at the use of combination of PVs and wind turbines to provide 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the RO plant’s energy. The analysis showed that it is economically viable to provide up to 50% of the RO plant’s power using PVs. Such an arrangement will also result in annual emission savings of more than 1 million kg of CO2 due to the reduction in the use of fossil fuel.

The conference aimed to bring together engineers, practitioners, scientists, researchers, scholars, students and experts from the industry to share new ideas and application and to foster relations between Academia and industry.
