Training Overview

The course will provide an overview of digital developments transcending business and society alike. It will establish the business models behind digital technology and how knowledge drives competiveness.  It will then lead to identifying how personal information is used to further business and political goals, and will project this trend to a possible conclusion. Course outline – this course will cover the following topics:

  1. Digital developments
  2. Data as foundation of Digital - Data, Information and Knowledge
  3. Knowledge as a result of Digital - know what, know why and know how
  4. Business Analytics - prerequisites and maturity levels
  5. Big Data or Big Brother – what do they know about me?
  6. How is this impacting my world?

 

Course Objective

At the end of the training, candidates will be able to understand the driving forces behind digitalisation and the systematic way in which these forces shape our digital future. They will learn how data is used to inform and to derive knowledge which can benefit their businesses. They will appreciate the threats to privacy and the risks associated with the digitalisation of all aspects of our lives, and learn how to manage their affairs in ways which protect their personal privacy and business confidentiality.

Dr. Nikolay Mehandjiev, Professor of Enterprise Information Systems, The University of Manchester.

 

Trainer Profile

Dr. MehandjievDr. Mehandjiev is a Professor of Enterprise Information Systems at the Alliance Manchester Business School.  He teaches and researches digital technology, big data and their transforming role for the manufacturing and process industries. Mehandjiev has published more than 150 peer-reviewed research outputs and has edited three special issues of international journals. He has participated in 25 collaborative projects worth €57m (€5.3m to the University of Manchester), with a number of blue-chip companies and SMEs, including Airbus, SAP, Comau, MAN, BT, Atos, Philips, DHL, Hanomag, and Magna InTier. Mehandijev has held visiting appointments with SAP Research Labs (Germany), Tongji University (China), Atos Origin SAE (Spain), BT Research (UK), UNSW (Australia).  He has graduated 15 PhD students and has served as an international reviewer for the European Commission, Belgium, Poland, Russia and Kazakhstan.  His teaching engagements include Manchester Executive Leadership Programme, AMBS Global MBA programme including workshops in Dubai, Tongji University (Shanghai) International MBA programme, personalised training workshops to Chinese government-sponsored training visits to UK, undergraduate and MSc module delivery.
