“Triple Helix Sustainability Forum” Takes Place at BUiD

Monday, November 21, 2016

On Monday, 21 November 2016, The British University in Dubai held the Sustainability and the Triple Helix Forum. The event aimed to bring the three major players in the economy: Government, Private Sector and Academia to work collaboratively in the pursuit of an effective agenda. This will allow three different perspectives on ‘sustainability’ to be mutually heard and discussed, and research issues identified, committed, and planned. Within this project, “sustainability is conceived as the effective combination of enhanced living standards, improved health and well-being, the preservation, protection and renewal of the environment and stable economic activity.

The forum was divided into three panels: “Context of Sustainability in the UAE”, “The Triple Helix and Sustainability, and “The Research Agenda. The forum aimed to:

  • identify UAE sustainability requirements/issues/priorities/stakeholders;
  • identify conditions likely to bring about collaboration between different stakeholders and generate funds for research and innovation in ‘sustainability’;
  • identify specific research needs/targets and set out a range of practicable projects and plans forward;
  • select a few projects to kick-start collaboration in research.
