Higher Education has been the subject of Rachel’s research work as well as the site of her academic and administrative professional career. Her initial research in student involvement in decision making processes of universities led to a broader engagement with government higher education policy and its impact on university organisation and management. She has worked at several Russell Group universities in the UK, at the UAE University, and most recently as Director of Academic Affairs at Yale-NUS College in Singapore. Her most recent research examines how national contexts for higher education policy, and institutional organisation and management are influenced by internationally contextualised concerns over competition, reputation, resource, and economic development. Topics have included quality assurance and accreditation, how little is known about academic migration, and the relative influence of home and host national settings on the organisation and management of university branch campuses.
