He is also an Honorary Fellow, University of Edinburgh, UK. He has a long-standing expertise in Arabic natural language processing (ANLP) and Knowledge Management research areas. Since 2004, He has been leading the Natural Language Processing Research Group at BUiD. 

He has been contributing to a wide range of topics in ANLP, including morphology, parsing, machine translation, named entity recognition, intelligent language tutoring, and diacritization. He, led a diverse set of funded international and national research projects in machine translation, named entity recognition, intelligent language tutoring systems, and expert systems. He collaborated with world-class researchers in the United States, Europe, and the Arabic world. He worked on research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (USA)/Egypt, National Research Foundation (UAE), British Council (UK), and other internally funded projects. 

The scientific production and contribution result in high quality journal articles, communications and presentations at conferences, dissertations, and book chapters. He has taken leadership roles and actively participated in efforts to successfully develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He is also very active in community service such as external examiner, external reviewer for academic programmes and project evaluation, member of the promotion committees for the rank of Associate Prof. and Full Professor, invited keynote speaker for conferences, and one of the international meetings by UNESCO, etc. Pls. see my citation metrics according to Google Scholar.

Academic Leadership Positions

Headship: He was the Head of the MSc. in Informatics Programme the British University in Dubai, UAE. The programme is offered in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. He was in charge of all academic and administrative tasks and responsibilities of the Informatics programme. Finally, the Programme has accreditation eligibility from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) in the UAE. In the last two years, the annual external examiner report indicated the success of this programme: “Having been external examiner at a number of UK Universities, He can confirm that the standards of teaching and assessment at BUiD are comparable to what he would expect of a UK University.”

Currently, he is the Programme Coordinator of the MSc. in Information Technology Management (ITM), the British University in Dubai, UAE. The programme is offered in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and The University of Manchester . MSc. in ITM combines modules from Informatics and Project Management programmes. In his capacity as a Programme Coordinator, he dealt with academic matters of the programme delivery such as module offering, student application screening, programme monitoring and other relevant tasks. He also coordinates with the Head of MSc Informatics programme in the accreditation, structure or design of the programme, and other relevant tasks. After 5 years from the initial accreditation, the programme is under the final accreditation from MoHE, UAE.
