Other Training Courses

Modules from our Master's programmes can be taken individually as short CPD courses by those wishing to study a particular aspect of a subject without registering for a full masters programme. CPD courses can also be tailored to meet the needs of specific client groups. 


The Professional Development Unit (PDU) at The British University in Dubai, the region’s leading research-based University, was established to work closely with major corporate clients to deliver career-oriented programs. Through these professional development courses, the PDU aims to provide training which will:

  • respond to the demand from all business sectors in the GCC, for more highly qualified and skilled professionals 
  • meet the growing regional demand for specialized fast-track training 
  • contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy in the region


At the PDU we deliver programmes tailored to meet an individual organisation’s specific needs; alternatively, organisations and individuals have the option of taking modules from BUiD’s MSc programmes as continuing professional development (CPD) courses. Relevant to both public and private sectors, these courses give businesses the opportunity to gain key industry specific skills from across the range of disciplines offered at BUiD. These are:

Our courses involve expert instruction which enables participants to develop skills relevant to their careers which in turn enhances their performance at work. Investing in such courses allows an organisation to maximise the full potential of its workforce, improving leadership skills, workforce productivity and customer service, and thereby raising company standards, efficiency and profitability. It encourages motivation and increases staff retention rates, and hence reduces the resources required to recruit new staff. 


Language Centre

The PDU’s language centre offers a range of programmes to non-native speakers of both English and Arabic languages.


Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language

A 5-day programme delivered in schools, this course is open to teachers of Arabic as a second language at upper primary and secondary levels.


English for Academic Purposes

This course spans one semester and is open to those who wish to take BUiD courses but do not meet the English language requirements. Please note that is essential that CPD students meet the entry requirements in order to obtain credits for their CPD studies. 


English Language Support

These courses are open to BUiD students who wish to improve their English language skills. 



We offer English language training for those wishing to develop their English language skills and to demonstrate their ability through IELTS (International English Language Testing system).


English for Lawyers

Open to those who have legal knowledge but wish to develop their skills in the use of English in a legal context. The focus of the course is on the precise meaning of vocabulary and contract drafting.


Examination Centre

The PDU is also recognised as a reputable examination centre and is able to manage both paper-based and online exams. Currently we hold exams for the following organisations:

  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) – paper-based
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) – online
    • Certificate in Business Accounting (CBA)
    • Certificate in Islamic Accounting
  • National Examination Board in Organisational Health and Safety (NEBOSH)
  • Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
