Head of the MSc in Systems Engineering, MSc in Intelligent Buildings Desing & Automation, MSc. in Engineering Management Programmes
He served an engineering apprenticeship with Beloit-Walmsley International Limited (Bury) gaining an Institution of Mechanical Engineers/ Ministry of Education Higher National Certificate in 1960 .Thereafter, for studies at King’s College, University of Durham, he was awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc (hons)),.Upon returning to industry he was appointed as the Development Engineer for Coles Cranes Limited (Sunderland).

In 1964 he accepted a commission in the Royal Navy with the rank of Lieutenant. He then served in HM Submarines WALRUS and ORPHEUS following training at HMS DOLPHIN. He was then appointed to the Royal Naval Engineering College (RNEC), Manadon, as a Lecturer in Control Engineering, where he served until 1968. Further RN sponsored studies at the University of Manchester, during 1968 -69, were then undertaken with the award of the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Automatic Control

From 1969 to 1973 he served as a Weapons Electrical Officer on the Aircraft Carrier HMS ALBION with the promotion to Lieutenant Commander, Royal Navy. Upon returning to shore duties he was appointed to the Royal Naval Engineering College (Manadon) as an Instructor in Automatic Control. Whilst there, he registered for research studies with the University of Manchester with the subsequent conferment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 1976. An appointment as a Project Officer, with the Director of Research (Ships) Bath, from 1976 to 1979, enabled the continuation of ship and weapon system control and modelling studies and the submission of a Defence Fellowship Research Proposal. This was approved with the award of a MOD Defence Fellowship Sabbatical at Imperial College, University of London, in 1979, followed by the award of a Diploma of Imperial College (DIC) in 1980. At this time he was re –appointed to RNEC (Manadon) and promoted to the rank of Commander, Royal Navy, and Head of the Control Engineering Department with the Navy List annotation Defence Fellow (Df ). In 1984 he was invited to apply for the Chair in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bradford. Subsequently, he was appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, at this University, where he served until 2006.

He was appointed Head of the Faculty of Engineering, at the British University in Dubai, in 2006. He remains the Professor of Engineering and Head of MSc programme in Systems Engineering at this post graduate University.
