Dr Wilkins has over 30 years of experience in industry and various academic roles, and has worked in the UK, UAE, Hong Kong and Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Wilkins’ industrial experience was in retail management in the UK, where he worked for several companies at branch and regional manager levels. He also has expertise in management development and competence-based training and has worked with UAE companies such as Emirates and EPPCO, as well as Seeb International Airport, Muscat. Dr Wilkins holds a MSc in Management Science from the University of Southampton (UK) and a PhD in Management from the University of Bath (UK), one of the top 5 business schools in the UK for business and management research. 

Dr Wilkins has over 20 years of lecturing experience, which included four years at the University of Dubai (1998-2001), where he was Director for Professional Management Programmes. Dr Wilkins has taught and acted as module leader on the MBA programmes of three UK universities and has been a visiting professor at Hong Kong University. More recently, he was Director of the Integrated PhD Programme at the University of Plymouth (UK). Dr Wilkins has authored over 50 refereed papers of which over 40 are journal articles. He was the first recipient of the European Association for International Education’s (EAIE) Award for Excellence in Research. His research interests are transnational higher education management, international marketing, consumer behaviour and international management/human resource management.
